"I chose to come to the UK because of its outstanding academic history - I wanted to broaden my horizons and immerse myself in many different cultures. It's a very different learning experience here because people are pro-active and enthusiastic. Students are encouraged to free their mind and think for themselves, take up new challenges and work on their own initiative."

Ileana Alexandra Ispas (Romania), Finalist 2006
Cardiff University
Romanian Ileana took on the challenge of learning the Welsh language while living in Cardiff. She was elected International Representative for psychology postgraduate students, and edited PsyPAG Quarterly – a magazine that goes out to her peers across the UK. Ileana’s love of literature led her to take a creative writing workshop and, with the encouragement of her tutors, she started work on her first novel. She was also involved in setting up Cardiff University’s Enterprise Society – an idea that started with just a handful of people, but which she helped grow to the point of running a programme of workshops, social events and competitions. |
